AI Governance Training & Enablement: practical AI literacy for boards, executives and teams

AI governance training built from your own AI register and policies rather than a standard deck: boards briefed on their duties, approvers taught to read risk, owners enabled to run the function, and every member of staff brought to the AI literacy baseline the EU AI Act has required since 2 February 2025. Understanding is assessed, recorded per person and handed over as a competence evidence pack. Briefings from £4,500 + VAT, full programmes from £18,000 + VAT.

Definition

What is AI governance training?

AI governance training teaches the people in an organisation to use, approve, build and govern AI properly: directors learn their duties, approvers learn to read risk, governance owners learn to run the register and reviews, and every member of staff reaches a recorded baseline of AI literacy. Done well, it produces evidence an auditor, customer or regulator can check.

The legal driver is Article 4 of the EU AI Act, which has required providers and deployers to ensure a sufficient level of AI literacy in their staff since 2 February 2025. ISO/IEC 42001 makes the same demand through clause 7, which requires demonstrated competence and awareness for the people whose work touches AI. Most organisations have neither the training nor the records, and only discover this when somebody asks for the evidence.

Intelance delivers training as live sessions taught by practitioners who run AI governance functions month by month, built from your own register and policies. Around it sits a complete practice: the AI Governance Office that builds the function, and AI Risk-as-a-Service that keeps it alive month by month. New to the subject? Start with our guide to what AI governance is.

In practice, that means
01

Built on your register

Sessions use your real use cases, policies and intake process.

02

Delivered live

Practitioners teach, on site or remote. No video libraries.

03

Short assessments

Understanding is confirmed and recorded per person.

04

Evidence at the end

A competence pack mapped to Article 4 and ISO/IEC 42001.

The audiences

Six audiences, each taught what they need

One generic course teaches nobody. Each audience gets its own sessions, its own assessment and its own output.

01

The board and audit committee

What AI duties sit with the board, what to ask about the register, and the risk appetite decisions only directors can make.

You leave withA board question set and a one page summary of directors’ AI duties.
02

Executives who approve AI

How to read a risk tier, when to say no, and what an approval commits the organisation to.

You leave withAn approval playbook written for your own intake process.
03

AI governance owners

Running the register, tiering use cases against the EU AI Act, chairing reviews and keeping the evidence.

You leave withA working routine your owner can run from the following Monday.
04

Teams building and deploying AI

The controls that apply to their work: data handling, testing, human oversight, logging and incident routes.

You leave withControls each team can apply to its own systems the same week.
05

Everyone who uses AI

The Article 4 literacy baseline: what the tools do, what must never go into them and where the boundaries sit.

You leave withRecorded completion for every member of staff.
06

The evidence of all of it

Attendance, assessment results and materials, gathered as one pack and mapped to the duties they satisfy.

You leave withA competence evidence pack mapped to EU AI Act Article 4 and ISO/IEC 42001 clause 7.

How it works

What happens in a training programme

Five stages from scoping to evidence. A board briefing runs in a half day. A full programme typically runs four to eight weeks around your teams’ availability.

Stage 1

Scope from your register

Audiences agreed and mapped against your AI register and policies: who approves, who runs the function, who builds and who uses the tools.

Stage 2

Design around your policies

Sessions written from your real use cases, intake process and controls rather than a standard deck, and signed off with you before delivery.

Stage 3

Deliver live sessions

Practitioners teach, on site or remote: short, direct sessions built for each audience, with questions answered from delivery experience.

Stage 4

Test the understanding

Short assessments per audience confirm the learning landed, recorded per person with resits where needed. This is what turns training into evidence.

Stage 5

Hand over the evidence

Materials, attendance, results and an AI literacy statement handed over as one pack, mapped to EU AI Act Article 4 and ISO/IEC 42001 clause 7.

Training fades without reinforcement: people leave, new starters arrive and the tools change under everyone. Refresher sessions are agreed as part of the programme, and AI Risk-as-a-Service keeps the whole function alive month by month from £8,000 + VAT.

The alternatives

How this compares with the alternatives

Three ways organisations answer the AI training question. The difference is whether anything can be evidenced afterwards.

What is covered and what is not

You get

01

Session materials written for each audience, yours to keep, reuse and adapt.

02

Competence records per person: attendance, assessment results and resits where they happened.

03

An AI literacy statement your organisation can point to under EU AI Act Article 4.

04

A board question set and approval playbook for the people who decide.

05

A refresher plan covering new starters and annual repeats, priced in writing.

This is not

×

An e-learning library. Sessions are live and specific to your organisation, taught by people who do the work.

×

A certificate mill. Understanding is assessed properly and recorded, including where it has not yet landed.

×

Legal advice. We teach duties and controls. Contractual and regulatory legal questions go to your counsel.

×

A substitute for governance. Training lands best where a register and policies exist. Where they do not, start with the QuickScan.

Why Intelance

The standards we hold ourselves to

01

Practitioners teach

The people delivering the sessions run AI governance registers, reviews and board reporting for clients month by month. Questions are answered from delivery experience rather than from a script.

02

Built from your register

Sessions use your own use cases, policies and intake process, so people learn the system they will operate.

03

Understanding is assessed

Short assessments per audience, recorded per person, with resits where needed. Attendance alone proves nothing to an auditor.

04

Published starting fees

From £4,500 + VAT for the briefing and from £18,000 + VAT for the full programme, fixed in writing before work starts.

05

Evidence that stands up

The pack maps to EU AI Act Article 4 and ISO/IEC 42001 clause 7, written so an auditor, customer or regulator can check it.

Who delivers this

Programmes are led by a senior partner and taught by senior practitioners who run AI governance functions for clients every month, with established associates across AI, cyber and data governance where depth is needed.

Thirty minutes with a senior practitioner: who approves AI, who runs the register, who builds with it and who uses the tools. If nobody can answer those questions yet, the conversation starts with the QuickScan instead, and we will say so.

FAQs

Questions about the training

What is AI governance training?

Training that teaches the people in an organisation to use, approve, build and govern AI properly: directors learn their duties, approvers learn to read risk, governance owners learn to run the register and reviews, and every member of staff reaches a recorded baseline of AI literacy. Done well, it produces competence evidence an auditor, customer or regulator can check.

Does the EU AI Act require AI training?

Yes. Article 4 has required providers and deployers of AI systems to ensure a sufficient level of AI literacy in their staff since 2 February 2025, taking account of each person’s role and the systems they work with. Most organisations have no records that would show this. Intelance programmes assess understanding per person and hand over the evidence.

What does AI governance training cost in the UK?

With Intelance, a board and executive briefing runs from £4,500 + VAT for a half day. The all staff AI literacy programme runs from £9,500 + VAT, owner enablement from £12,500 + VAT, and the full training and enablement programme from £18,000 + VAT. Every fee is a published floor, fixed in writing before work starts.

Does ISO/IEC 42001 require training?

Yes. Clause 7.2 requires organisations to ensure and evidence the competence of people whose work affects the AI management system, and clause 7.3 requires awareness of the AI policy and their role in it. The Intelance competence evidence pack is mapped to both, so certification audits have something to check.

Is the training delivered on site or remotely?

Either, and both work. Sessions are live in both cases, taught by a practitioner, with the same assessments and the same evidence pack. Recordings can be agreed for refresher use inside your organisation.

How long does a programme take?

A board and executive briefing runs in a half day. The all staff literacy programme typically runs two to four weeks, owner enablement two to six weeks, and the full programme four to eight weeks, scheduled around your teams’ availability rather than ours.

Do you use our own policies and tools in the sessions?

Yes. Sessions are built from your AI register, your policies and your intake process, so people learn the system they will operate. Where no register or policies exist yet, we say so plainly and recommend starting with the AI Governance QuickScan from £15,000 + VAT.

What evidence do we receive at the end?

One competence evidence pack: session materials, attendance, assessment results per person including resits, and an AI literacy statement, all mapped to EU AI Act Article 4 and ISO/IEC 42001 clause 7. It lives in your own tools and stands up to auditor, customer and regulator questions.
